Strength in Diversity: Embracing Disability in My Role as an IBCLC

Hello, everyone.

Today, I want to share a more personal aspect of my journey with you all. Many of you know me as a professional in the field of infant feeding, but there's another part of my story that has shaped who I am and how I work.

Despite experiencing symptoms for nearly a decade, I was only recently diagnosed with an autoimmune disease that has had a profound impact on my mobility. This diagnosis has been life-changing, and the treatment I’m undergoing leaves me immunocompromised. This new reality has brought challenges and adjustments, both personally and professionally.

Despite these obstacles, my commitment to supporting parents and professionals in the world of infant feeding has only grown stronger. Living with a disability has provided me with a unique perspective on resilience, empathy, and the importance of tailored, compassionate care.

My experience has deepened my understanding of the diverse challenges families face, and it has inspired me to advocate even more passionately for inclusive and accessible healthcare practices. Whether it’s navigating physical spaces, managing health concerns, or facing societal attitudes, I am more determined than ever to ensure that everyone has the support they need.

I continue to work as the owner of Cheshire Baby Support and as an Infant Feeding Coordinator within the NHS, striving to make a positive impact on infant feeding practices and policies. My mission remains the same: to empower and educate parents and professionals alike, providing evidence-based information and personalised care to support successful feeding journeys.

Thank you for your continued support and understanding. Together, we can create a community that values and supports every individual's unique journey
